Admissions Counselor

Under the general supervision of the Director of Admissions, the Admissions Counselor role is a consultative sales position focused on supporting and counseling students through the Hackbright and DevMountain admissions processes. This person will be responsible for relationship development (this involves multiple interactions) with both full-time (Immersive) and part-time (After Hours) applicants. As the primary point of contact in the admissions office; this role requires developing a detailed understanding of the lead and application process and the systems and tools necessary for managing the applicant pipeline; as well as detailed knowledge of Hackbright and DevMountain product offerings, in addition to providing a high level of customer service to help students make fully informed decisions on making this career change. The ideal candidate will bring drive, self-motivation, organization, and the ability to remain focused on the right outcomes. This person will split their time between Hackbright and DevMountain, with roughly 80% of their time being spent on Hackbright admissions activities.

This is a full-time position, with full benefits (medical, dental, PTO, 401k match, etc.).



  • Build and manage a strong admissions pipeline, by utilizing organization and forecasting methodologies
  • Organize/manage the interview process and guide prospects through the admissions process: qualify readiness and fit for the program, investigate and discover needs, understand motivations, present scholarship and financing options with a high level of customer service
  • Institute and oversee measurement systems to monitor and analyze success of outreach campaigns and recruitment plans
  • Maintain detailed records of prospective student data and interactions with prospective students
  • Represent HackBright's and DevMountain’s interests to external-facing populations and plan, manage and attend recruiting events including but not limited to info sessions, open houses, tours, etc.
  • Assist in the onboarding of new students
  • Assist with ad hoc needs of the admissions team and as other duties as are assigned
  • Guiding prospects through Hackbright and DevMountain’s consultative enrollment process: qualifying readiness and fit, investigating and discovering needs, understanding motivations, presenting features and financing options, recommending programs and customized solutions, asking for the business when appropriate and always listening to the needs of the learner
  • Typical day will involve continuous customer interaction throughout the majority of the day on the phone or via chat, social media & email; all customer contact is with “warm” leads—no cold calling; a variety of service standards are measured such as availability, talk time, adherence to contact strategy & protocols, pipeline management, backlog, record keeping, forecasting, etc.
  • Leveraging automation tools and complex software applications to manage learner data
  • Committing to continuous training and development to become experts on a dynamic, evolving product offering; establishing credibility is essential and enrollment counselors are responsible for utilizing extensive product knowledge
  • Team participation: counselors are expected to operate as a team, dedicated to meeting customer expectations and reinforcing a high quality, end-to-end learner experience; this entails supporting colleagues, taking active part in team discussions and 1:1 call coaching sessions, and providing constructive feedback to management; improving learner persistence by creating personalized pathways for learners, by assessing needs and being transparent and clear with all learners so they are making fully informed decisions


  • BA/BS in relevant field preferred; commensurate experience can substitute the education preference
  • Previous professional sales experience is preferred, preferably in one of the following fields of interest:
  • Consultative inside sales of a complex or intangible product offering
  • Higher education admissions
  • Recruiting
  • Educational or training-industry sales
  • Referral-based sales roles
  • Fund-raising for non-profit organizations
  • Retail sales of high-end solutions which require in-depth customer interaction
  • Displayed track record of advanced performance and ability to meet objectives
  • Ability to work in a goal driven and measured performance environment
  • Excellent time management, interpersonal, written/verbal communication, and presentation skills
  • Evidence of organizational accomplishments in a productive and collaborative team environment
  • Highly motivated, self-starter and able to relate positively and professionally with prospective learners and University colleagues
  • Experience with comprehensive customer-decision cycle, which often entails multiple contacts
  • Experience representing high-value products and services to a diverse customer base
  • Expertise leveraging customer-tracking software applications and tools
  • High achievement-orientation and drive
  • High service-orientation; strong desire to work in a mission-driven culture and work in the best interests of customers/learners
  • Experience creating and maintaining strong customer relationships

This is an on-site position located at DevMountain’s Provo headquarters. It requires the ability to work in Provo, Utah and in a high-energy office space. DevMountain’s Provo office space:

  • is designed with an open work space setting and common fluorescent lighting
  • includes frequent co-worker interaction and corresponding noise levels
  • is subject to inside environmental conditions

Sedentary work:

  • this role is mainly a sedentary role with frequent sitting and occasional walking and/or standing.
  • this role involves frequent usage of a telephone, PC and standard monitors.
  • Employees are expected to provide their own equipment including but not limited to laptop, phone and printer
  • this role has minimal lifting requirements, may require exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects

Requires minimal (0–10 percent) business travel:

  • may occasionally require travel to off-site meetings as requested and based on business needs. All travel must be pre-approved and arrangements made according to DevMountain policies/procedures.


  • Work hours and starting times may vary depending on the job and the business needs. Some positions will have a specified starting time, and may be earlier or later, depending upon business requirements.
  • the normally scheduled workweek for all full-time employees consists of 40-45 hours.
