Description

The Marketing Manager is a Portfolio Marketing position within our marketing organization. This individual will establish our Psychology, Counseling, Social Work and Human Service and Public Service degrees/programs as the leader in adult online learning. This role supports the development and execution of product positioning, messaging, and go-to-market strategies. This role requires a deep understanding of priority products, target market(s), value propositions, and the competitive environment. This individual engages with teams across marketing (Aggregator, Paid Search, Online Media, Brand, and Employer), cross-functional teams and agencies/vendors/influencers on campaigns and promotional strategies that grow awareness, consideration, and conversion.

 

Responsibilities

  • Portfolio Growth. Develop and manage a roadmap of ongoing, cross-channel, strategic marketing initiatives at a degree/program level.  Assist with the performance and tracking of all initiatives and optimize to deliver on brand and business KPIs
  • Key Messages. Work with internal and external teams to develop degree/program positioning, competitive differentiators, messaging and content that differentiates Capella in the market
  • Content Marketing. Build content to showcase a differentiated story with compelling business results. Craft a consistent and compelling narrative across channels (including blog content) maintaining strong messaging hierarchy and effective content strategy plans
  • Campaigns. Lead the implementation of campaigns that drive for results. Implement ongoing marketing campaigns, strategy through execution both internally and externally. Develop plans with clear strategic objectives and thoughtful measures
  • Event Marketing.  Lead strategy for high priority events
  • Brand Integrations. Partner with Creative, Brand, and agencies/vendors to ensure proper product representation in brand campaigns and marketing initiatives
  • Channel Integrations. Engage with internal marketing channel partners including Aggregator, Paid Search, Online Media, Brand, and Employer to support media and promotional plans to meet degree/program KPIs
  • Competitive Insights. Develop competitive insights to understand trends and inform messaging and communications strategies. Research to better understand our target market and make recommendations on how to best reach them
  • Analytics. Develop an understanding of data analytics, monitor daily activity and identify trends; communicate findings to internal stake holders.  Partner with Marketing Analytics, Reporting & Analytics and IT teams in doing so
  • Innovation. Drive new and optimize existing programs/campaigns that drive new business. Implement optimizations and new ideas that drive results
  • Other responsibilities as assigned

 

Qualifications

  • BS required. MBA preferred.
  • 5+ years’ experience in relatable marketing work, within a direct marketing or service organization.
  • Marketing experience, preferably within product marketing, with knowledge of paid media.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills.
  • Knowledge of the marketing landscape with awareness of emerging innovation.
  • Comfort in a fast-paced, ever-changing and sometimes ambiguous, work environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and can work collaboratively with others.
  • Strong execution skills, able to work with a high degree of autonomy.
  • Ability to translate deep customer insights into relationship marketing driven approach that is highly personalized, relevant and strategic.
  • Business acumen, critical thinking, strategic thinking, and creating alignment.
  • Effectively communicate, both up and down the management chain.
  • Must be able to travel 10% of time. Travel via plane, car, and metro may be required to perform this job.

This is an on-site position located at Capella’s downtown Minneapolis headquarters. It requires the ability to work in downtown Minneapolis and in a high-rise corporate office setting.  Typical of a corporate office setting, Capella’s office space: 

  • is designed with an open work space setting and common fluorescent lighting 
  • includes frequent co-worker interaction and corresponding noise levels 
  • is subject to inside environmental conditions 

Sedentary work: 

  • this role is mainly a sedentary role with frequent sitting and occasional walking and/or standing.   
  • this role involves frequent usage of a telephone, PC and standard monitors.    
  • this role has minimal lifting requirements, may require exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects 

Requires minimal (0–10 percent) business travel: 

  • may occasionally require travel to on-site Capella events such as Commencement or off-site Capella University leadership meetings as requested and based on business needs. All travel must be pre-approved and arrangements made according to Capella’s policies/procedures.

 Workhours: 

  • the University’s general office hours are Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. CST. Work hours and starting times may vary depending on the job and the business needs. Some positions will have a specified starting time, and may be earlier or later, depending upon business requirements.
  • the normally scheduled workweek for all full-time employees consists of 40-45 hours.
